As a political commentator Dr Hewson has advocated for a renewable energy future in Australia. In his recent opinion article, Dr Hewson argued that ‘Australia is a laggard in its response to climate challenges, but a good policy response is still possible with the right leadership’.

Dr Hewson was leader of the Liberal Party of Australia between 1990 and 1994. Since then he has run his own investment banking business and served on the boards of several businesses and charities including General Security Australia Insurance Brokers, Osteoporosis Australia and the Arthritis Research Taskforce. Hewson has repeatedly appeared in television interviews and on political panels and has been a regular columnist for the Australian Financial Review since 2004.
