My PhD research investigates changes in the Austral-Asian Monsoon using paleoclimate records from Sulawesi, Indonesia. I use cave formations, known as stalagmites, to reconstruct ancient rainfall over Indonesia extending back 380,000 years ago. Understanding how monsoon systems behaved in the past, in response to major changes in climate is critical to understanding and predicting how these same systems will respond to current global warming.
